World Diabetes Day 2024: Movi’s initiatives aimed at colleagues

On World Diabetes Day, November 14, Movi’s Biosystem Business Unit sponsored an internal initiative aimed at colleagues in other therapeutic areas, with the goal of raising awareness of the disease and the well-being of people with diabetes. Movi, which has been involved in the field for more than 30 years, continues to pursue its commitment to awareness and education within the company as well.
This year, in particular, at the Milan headquarters on Via Dione Cassio, the focus was on the fundamental importance of the well-being of the person with diabetes, the central theme of World Diabetes Day 2024. This focus is part of a three-year path defined by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), which places the overall well-being of the person at the center of disease management, encompassing physical, psychological, and social aspects. During the day, useful information was transferred and materials were shared on physical activity, nutrition, and the use of new technologies, all of which directly impact the health and quality of life of those living with a chronic disease such as diabetes.
A symbolic gesture for the day was the healthy and balanced breakfast prepared by dietitian Anna Menasci. This small gesture, while simple, had a strong educational value, raising awareness among colleagues about the importance of a nutritious and healthy breakfast, which plays a key role in the daily management of diabetes.
At the same time, employees had the opportunity to try the Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM), one of the most advanced devices for continuous monitoring of blood glucose levels. Launched last year in Italy by the Biosystem Business Unit, the CGM offered participants the opportunity not only to discover the workings and benefits of this cutting-edge technology but also to monitor their own health status in real-time. This way, they were able to directly observe how physical activity, diet, and daily choices influence glycemic trends. It was an experience that allowed them to gain a deeper and more concrete understanding of the impact of diabetes on the lives of those living with it, strengthening awareness and empathy for people who face this chronic condition on a daily basis.
Finally, the day highlighted the importance of overall well-being in diabetes management, an issue increasingly recognized by the scientific community. In fact, according to the IDF, 3 out of 4 people with diabetes have experienced anxiety, depression, or other psychological disorders related to the disease. Movi, with this initiative, reaffirms its commitment to promoting a culture of awareness, support, and well-being within the company, with a special focus on the mental and physical health of people with diabetes.
It therefore becomes increasingly crucial to raise awareness of the importance of psychological well-being in diabetes management and treatment journeys, so that people can cope with the disease in a more complete and integrated way, improving their quality of life.
